Just like a Butterfly has four wings, Mariposa’s curriculum is based on four very important ideas to set the children off to a great start in life:
- Children’s Safety– Safety and safeguarding are of utmost importance to me. In accordance with the Early Years Statutory Framework, I will be updating my safeguarding courses. As well as always have risk assessments for everything we will be doing within our setting and during our outings.
- Outdoor – I put my hand up on this one; I am no Forest Ranger, nor do I currently have any certificates to show I am an outdoor expert! But I do love being outdoors. We hug trees, we don’t squash insects, we rescue worms, we learn what plants we can’t touch and listen to nature’s music. We help children to respect our planet and nature by playing in it. I aim to get a Forest School certification and give updates when I can.
- Spanish– As a Bilingual myself, I know the importance of knowing more than one language. As well as the good it does for children’s cognitive functions! Learning Spanish in Mariposa comes naturally and holistically through nursery rhymes, counting and general conversation.
- Emotions – As a STEP Leader (Early Childhood STEP Kit | STEP Publishers) I am trained to guide children through the different emotions they will develop in their early years. With this comes the method of behaviour management (found on the website) and teaching the children all about our basic emotions: Anger, Sadness, Happiness and Love and how they come out with our actions.
With these four curriculum bases, children should be prepared to go through their developmental stages in a more confident way in order to thrive in their later years.
